Terms of Use
Last updated: 20 September 2026 · Version 1.2.0
1. SCOPE
These terms apply to the use of the REVIER app, provided by
Michael HofertKarlsbader Straße 2667433 Neustadt an der WeinstraßeEmail: samuelhofert@gmail.com
Before you play for the first time, you expressly agree to these terms in the app — by ticking the checkbox under your nickname. Without this consent, no round can be created and none can be joined. If we change the terms significantly, we will ask again.
2. WHAT THE APP IS
REVIER is an outdoor game in which several people move around within a defined area and see each other's locations on a shared map. Two modes, Rally and Assassin, work without a map and without location. The app is a tool for this game and does not replace attentiveness or your own caution.
The app is free. There are no in-app purchases, no advertising, and no sharing of data for advertising purposes.
3. SAFETY WHILE PLAYING
Participation in a round is entirely at your own risk. Each participant decides for themselves whether they consider a playing area safe, and can leave a round at any time.
This section is the most important part of these terms.
- Always pay attention to your surroundings. Do not look at the screen while running, especially near roads.
- Road traffic always takes priority over any game objective. Follow traffic rules. REVIER is a game played on foot; do not use the app while driving.
- Do not enter private property, construction sites, railway tracks, or restricted areas.
- Respect nature reserves, quiet hours, and other people in the area.
- Do not play in the dark or in bad weather in unfamiliar terrain.
- Make sure your battery is sufficiently charged and that you are able to call for help in an emergency.
- Catching is done without violence. In REVIER, catching means: walking up to someone, tagging them, and scanning or entering the other person's code. Holding someone down, pushing, tackling, tripping, and any other form of physical violence are prohibited.
- No dangerous objects. Nothing is thrown during the game and nothing is used as a weapon or mock weapon. This also applies to the tasks in Assassin mode.
- No one is chased or driven into dangerous areas — not onto roadways, tracks, construction sites, bodies of water, roofs, or other unsecured terrain. If someone flees there, the chase ends. Anyone who says "stop" is not pursued further.
- Any player can pause a running round for everyone. Use this if something has happened.
- The host of a round determines the playing field and is responsible for ensuring that this area can be entered safely.
- People under 16 may only play with the consent of, and under the supervision of, their legal guardians. The app is not intended for children under 13.
- For groups with children and young people, supervision lies with the group leadership — for example in youth groups, clubs, schools, and on trips. They decide whether the playing field, mode, time of day, and circumstances are suitable for their group, obtain the necessary consent from guardians, and remain reachable during the round. The app does not relieve them of this responsibility.
Participation takes place at your own responsibility.
4. ACCESS WITHOUT AN ACCOUNT
No registration is required to use the app. The app generates an anonymous identifier the first time it is started. There is no entitlement to retaining a particular identifier, nickname, or previous round data. If you change devices, reinstall the app, or delete your data, you start with no history.
A round is joined via a six-digit game code, a QR code, or an invitation link. Anyone with the code can join and, during the round, sees the locations of others according to the rules of the mode. Only share the code with people you want to play with, and do not publish it.
5. CONDUCT
When using the app, the following is prohibited:
- using nicknames or other content that are insulting, harmful to minors, discriminatory, or that infringe the rights of third parties (see Section 8)
- attempting to manipulate the app, the server, or location tracking, for example through spoofed locations, or gaining an advantage by using a vehicle
- automated use, mass creation of players, and any form of overloading the service
- using the app to stalk, harass, or surveil other people
- commercial use without our prior consent
Zero tolerance applies to offensive content and abusive behavior towards others. What happens in the event of violations is set out in Section 9.
6. LOCATIONS, RECAPS, AND SHARED IMAGES
During the round. The locations of fellow players are visible only within the respective round, according to the rules of the mode. Anyone who joins a round knows that their location will be shown to the other participants of that round. The locations of others must not be recorded, passed on, or used outside the game. The live location and the precise history of positions are deleted no later than 24 hours after the round ends.
The round recap. At the end of a round, a recap is created: a map with the nicknames and paths of the round. The paths are shortened — everything outside the playing field and the first and last 150 meters are omitted. The recap carries no identifier and remains available for 7 days, after which it is automatically deleted. It can be accessed via a link with a ten-digit code, and anyone with this link can view it without logging in.
For this reason: only share recap links with people who took part in the round. Anyone who passes on the link is passing on the nicknames and paths of everyone involved. A recap link does not belong in public groups, profiles, or posts.
The Rally recap is only created if the game leader explicitly does so. It can be accessed under the Rally's game code without logging in and shows team names, points, the paths of each team, and only the photos the game leader has approved. It is deleted 7 days after the round ends.
Shared images. At the end of a round you can save and share images of your round. Depending on the image, these may show your nickname, the nicknames of your fellow players, the place name, the date, and the path you ran. Before sharing such an image publicly, obtain the consent of the people whose names appear on it.
7. RUNNING ROUNDS
Anyone who creates or leads a round determines where and how everyone else plays, and thereby takes on responsibility.
- Check the playing field before you start (see Section 3).
- The host can remove players from the lobby and from a running round. This is not a ban: the same person can rejoin using the game code. If a code has fallen into the wrong hands, end the round and create a new one.
- Assassin — players without a phone. In Assassin mode, the game leader can manually add people who do not use a phone themselves. Anyone doing this needs the prior consent of these people, or of their guardians or group leadership in the case of minors. A nickname is entered, not the full name. The game leader tells those entered that their name appears in the round and that a finished round remains stored for 30 days.
- Rally. The game leader sees the answers and photos of all teams, reviews them, and decides which photos go into the Rally recap. They only approve photos in which everyone depicted has given consent (see Section 8), and delete reported photos.
8. YOUR OWN CONTENT
In some places you enter something yourself that others can see: your nickname, wishes in the wishlist, custom modes that you publish from the mode builder (name, description, and the nickname under which they appear), as well as answers and photos in Rally, including team and task names. There is no chat, no messages, and no profiles.
You are responsible for this content yourself.
8.1 What is prohibited
Content must not
- be insulting, threatening, discriminatory, racist, sexualized, or glorify violence
- be harmful to minors
- infringe the rights of third parties, such as copyright, trademark, name, or personality rights; this also includes impersonating another person
- contain advertising
- contain personal data. A wish, a mode name, or a description must not include names, addresses, phone numbers, or other contact details — neither yours nor anyone else's. Approved wishes are visible to all users, and their text is sent to a service provider for translation (see the Privacy Policy). We do not approve wishes containing personal information.
8.2 Photos in Rally
Only take and upload photos showing identifiable people with their consent. For minors, the consent of guardians or of the group leadership who obtained this consent for their group is required. Uninvolved bystanders — passers-by, other groups — are not photographed. No one is photographed in a situation that would expose or embarrass them.
Rally photos are seen only by the game leader and one's own team; only approved photos appear in the Rally recap. Photos are deleted 7 days after the round ends, and the rest of the Rally round after 30 days.
8.3 What rights you grant us
Your content remains yours. So that the app can display it, you grant us a simple, royalty-free, and geographically unrestricted right of use, limited to the operation of REVIER. We may
- store and display your content
- publish it in the app and in the associated recaps
- automatically translate it and display the translation
- review it — before and after publication, including automatically
- reject and remove it
This right ends when the content is deleted — by you via "Delete my data", by us, or through the automatic deletion periods. You warrant that you hold the necessary rights to your content, and, for photos, the consent of the people depicted.
8.4 Review, no entitlement
Wishes and published custom modes are reviewed before they become visible to everyone. Nicknames are checked automatically upon entry.
There is no entitlement to having a wish or a custom mode approved, kept visible, or implemented. We may reject or remove content without giving reasons. Votes in the wishlist represent an opinion poll and do not obligate us to anything.
9. REPORTING, BLOCKING, AND SUSPENSION
9.1 Reporting
- A player: press and hold their row, in the lobby or on the end screen. You choose a reason (offensive name, harassment, cheating) and can add a note.
- A wish or a published custom mode: use the report button on the respective entry. A wish that is reported multiple times disappears from the list until we have reviewed it.
- A Rally photo: use "Report and delete photo" on the photo.
A report goes to us, not to the group. The reported person is not told who reported them. We review every report within 24 hours. Do not report anything you know to be untrue.
9.2 Blocking
Using the same press-and-hold action, you can block a player. Their nickname will then appear to you only as "Player", and they can no longer join any round you host. Nothing changes for anyone else — blocking is your own decision and not a punishment, and the blocked person is not notified. You can undo it in settings under "Blocked players".
You do not need to justify reporting or blocking, and you do not need to ask anyone for permission to do so.
9.3 What we do
If a report is confirmed, we remove the content and may suspend the user — for a set period or indefinitely, and immediately and permanently in serious cases. Anyone suspended can no longer submit wishes or vote; we may also remove their published modes and end individual rounds.
Anyone disrupting a round is removed fastest by their own group: the host can do this at any time (see Section 7).
If you believe a report or suspension against you is a mistake, write to the email address given in Section 1. We will look into it.
10. AVAILABILITY
The app is provided without any guarantee of continuous availability. Maintenance work, technical faults, changes to the game rules, or discontinuation of the service are possible at any time. Because the app relies on mobile networks and device-based positioning, inaccuracies, delays, or outages may occur. No particular game outcome is owed.
No guarantee is given that the app will operate error-free, that locations will be displayed correctly, or that a round can be played to completion without interruption. Rounds and their data are automatically deleted according to the periods set out in the Privacy Policy; there is no entitlement to longer retention.
11. LIABILITY
The app is a tool. It provides a map and game functions. Where, when, and under what conditions a round is played is decided by the participants, the host, and, where applicable, the group leadership of the respective round themselves. They are responsible for choosing the playing area, assessing local hazards, providing supervision, and their own conduct during the game.
Displayed locations, distances, boundaries, and times are based on device positioning and the mobile network connection. They may be inaccurate, delayed, or temporarily unavailable. A displayed playing-field boundary does not mean that the terrain beyond it can be entered safely or is legally accessible. No one may rely on the app's information to assess a hazardous situation.
We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, and for injury to life, body, or health. In the case of simple negligence, we are liable only for breach of an obligation whose fulfilment is essential to the proper use of the app and on whose observance you may regularly rely, and limited to foreseeable damage typical for this type of contract. Liability is otherwise excluded. Liability under the Product Liability Act remains unaffected.
In particular, we do not assume liability for damage arising from the fact that
- the surroundings were not sufficiently observed during play
- a playing area was chosen that is not safe or not freely accessible
- traffic rules, barriers, no-entry restrictions, or property rights were disregarded
- Section 3 was violated when catching or chasing
- information from the app was treated as reliable despite recognizable inaccuracy
- positioning, the mobile network connection, or the device failed
- users posted content or passed on links and images
If a user culpably violates these terms and a third party asserts a claim against us as a result, the user shall indemnify us against that claim. This applies in particular to content that infringes the rights of third parties and to photos taken without the consent of the people depicted.
12. RIGHTS TO THE APP
All rights to the app, its name, its design, and its content belong to the provider. Use is permitted only within the scope of these terms. The map material comes from Google or Apple, and the location data for search comes from OpenStreetMap and its contributors (ODbL).
13. PRIVACY
What the app does with your data, how long it is retained, and how you can delete it is set out in the Privacy Policy. It is also linked in the app under "Legal".
14. TERMINATION
You can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it or by using the "Delete my data" function in the app under "Legal". This also deletes your wishes and your published custom modes. Round recaps carry no identifier and expire automatically after 7 days; if you want one removed sooner, write to us.
15. CHANGES
These terms may be adjusted if the app or legal requirements change. The version currently in force is available in the app under "Legal" and at https://revier.games/nutzung. In the event of significant changes, the app will ask for your consent again before the next round.
16. FINAL PROVISIONS
The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies. Mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country in which you have your habitual residence remain unaffected. Should any provision be invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions shall remain unaffected.
We are neither willing nor obliged to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
